Nacpan Beach or Las Cabañas: which El Nido beach should you choose?

Updated October 28, 2026 · 5 min read

Long pale beach backed by palms beneath green hills near El Nido

Choose Nacpan Beach for a long, spacious beach day and Las Cabañas for an easy afternoon that runs into sunset. They are not substitutes in different directions: Nacpan is the destination you plan around, while Las Cabañas is the convenient beach near town that fits after another activity.

Nacpan: space and a full outing

Nacpan’s appeal is its scale. The pale shoreline runs far enough that walking away from the main arrival area changes the atmosphere. It works for travellers who want several hours of sand, lunch and swimming rather than a quick sunset stop.

The cost is travel effort. Road conditions and traffic affect the journey, and the beach is far enough from El Nido town that a short visit feels inefficient. Agree the return arrangement and fare with your van or tricycle driver before leaving. Do not rely on finding the same transport at the exact moment you want to return.

The sea is not permanently calm. Check conditions on arrival, especially with children or weak swimmers, and do not infer safety from other people being in the water. Shade and seating depend on where you settle, so carry drinking water and sun protection rather than expecting a resort setup along the entire beach.

Las Cabañas: the easier sunset choice

Las Cabañas, often discussed together with Marimegmeg Beach, is much closer to town and has more of a social sunset atmosphere. It suits a late afternoon, drinks or dinner and travellers who do not want to commit most of a day to transport. The trade-off is a busier, more developed feel and less sense of escape.

Arrive before sunset if you want time in the water; reaching the beach only as the sun drops leaves little daylight for swimming. Sunset itself depends on cloud, so treat the evening colour as a possibility, not a guaranteed show.

Which one fits your itinerary?

Pick Nacpan when the beach is the main event, you have a flexible return and you value room over convenience. Pick Las Cabañas when you have toured the islands or travelled earlier that day and want the simplest worthwhile beach finish.

Neither replaces an El Nido island-hopping day. The mainland beaches offer sand and sunset; Bacuit Bay boat routes deliver the limestone islands and lagoons that define the destination.

Recommendation

With only one free afternoon, choose Las Cabañas. With a full unhurried day and reliable return transport, choose Nacpan.
